چکیده

Abstract The demixing and sorting strategies for chiral active mixtures are crucial to the biochemical pharmaceutical industries. However, it remains uncertain whether mixed particles can spontaneously demix without aid of specific strategies. In this paper, we investigate behaviors binary in a model understand mechanism mixtures. We demonstrate that motility-induced phase separation (MIPS). hidden velocity alignment MIPS allows different types accumulate clusters, thereby facilitating separation. There exists an optimal angular or packing fraction at which is optimal. Noise (translational rotational diffusion) promote mixture certain cases, rather than always being detrimental process. Since order caused by process not global, behavior strongly dependent on system size. Furthermore, also discovered from resulting explicit alignment. Our findings understanding be applied experiments attempting separate various future.

Motility-Induced Phase Separation

Self-propelled particles include both self-phoretic synthetic colloids and various micro-organisms. By continually consuming energy, they bypass the laws of equilibrium thermodynamics. These laws enforce the Boltzmann distribution in thermal equilibrium: the steady state is then independent of kinetic parameters. In contrast, self-propelled particles tend to accumulate where they move more slow...

Activity-induced phase separation and self-assembly in mixtures of active and passive particles.

We investigate the phase behavior and kinetics of a monodisperse mixture of active (i.e., self-propelled) and passive isometric Brownian particles through Brownian dynamics simulations and theory. As in a purely active system, motility of the active component triggers phase separation into a dense and a dilute phase; in the dense phase, we further find active-passive segregation, with "rafts" o...

Depletion induced demixing in polydisperse mixtures of hard spheres

Polydisperse mixtures are those in which components with a whole range of sizes are present. It is shown that the fluid phase of polydisperse hard spheres is thermodynamically unstable unless the density of large spheres decreases at least exponentially as their size increases. The instability is with respect to the large spheres crystallising out into multiple solid phases. PACS: 64.10.+h, 64....

Depletion-induced phase separation in colloid-polymer mixtures.

Phase separation can be induced in a colloidal dispersion by adding non-adsorbing polymers. Depletion of polymer around the colloidal particles induces an effective attraction, leading to demixing at sufficient polymer concentration. This communication reviews theoretical and experimental work carried out on the polymer-mediated attraction between spherical colloids and the resulting phase sepa...
